Girls Who Code Club and Technovation Challenge

Girls Who Code Club.  It is a FREE afterschool program for all girls from 6th to 8th grade.  Girls Who Code is an award-winning national nonprofit organization leading the movement to inspire, educate, and equip girls with the computing skills to pursue 21st century opportunities.  Girls will learn to build an app, design a video game, design and build websites, and change the world through code.  Girls Who Code has teamed up with a record number of major companies and philanthropic foundations as sponsors.  There will be opportunities to go on fieldtrips to high-tech campuses in Silicon Valley and all over the SF Bay Area to see where the technologies that touch every facet of our lives are created, and meet the people who run them!  Beyond the club, girls will have the opportunity to participate in the Summer Immersion Programs when they get to high school.  The Davidson club sessions will start right after school on Wednesdays from 2:30-4:30pm in Room 54 and will run until the end of the school year or until all the modules are finished.    We have room for up to 25-30 students.  Please contact Grace Doctolero and Kailani Stuart at gcd999@gmail.com or (415) 725-0700 to sign up or learn more about the program.  You can also visit the website to learn more:  www.girlswhocode.com

Technovation Challenge.  As featured in the documentary film, CodeGirl, it is equally exciting, and is a little bit different from Girls Who Code.  Donations are requested to join the program so the instructor can cover a portion of her administrative costs.  Technovation Challenge is an exciting international competition to create an app to address a community problem or issue.  Teams from all over the world, of between two and five girls decide on a problem they want to address in their community, and then design and make an app to solve it!  In the process they learn key business skills like writing a business plan, making a video pitch, and marketing.  The girls will be guided by a coach and local industry mentors.  Same opportunities exist for fieldtrips to high-tech campuses and other events for girls in this program.  Finalists will be chosen to present their apps to industry leaders in San Francisco, and the winning team is awarded $10,000 to build and take their app to market!  Sessions will start after school on Thursdays, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm in Room 35 and will run until April 30th, 2016.  We have room for 20-30 (4-5 teams) of girls.  Please contact Grace Doctolero and Kailani Stuart at gcd999@gmail.com or (415) 725-0700 to sign up or learn more.  The website for more information is:  www.technovationchallenge.org
