8th Grade Important Information
8th Grade Promotion Details.
The end of 8th grade is an exciting time for our students and families as they prepare to transition from middle school to high school. There are several activities and events we want families to be aware of, so they can plan and prepare as a family to celebrate their child’s promotion.
The first event is our 8th grade dance, this year being held in the Davidson gym from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Friday, June 5th. The dress is formal, and parents wishing to participate should look for information from our PTO. There are no tickets or purchases required, and dinner is included for the students attending.
The 8th grade promotion will be held on Wednesday, June 10, at the San Rafael High School football field from 6-7:30PM. The field is not accessible before 5:00PM because Madrone High School will be using the space. Students should arrive at 5:20 and will already know where to line up.
All students will be provided with a graduation gown that must be returned after the event. Students will receive their gowns earlier in the week, and return stations will be placed at the back of the field for students to return their gowns after the ceremony. Students will review the process when we prepare for the ceremony earlier that week.
If you can walk, please do so. You’ll be glad you did, as parking is very difficult to find in the area of San Rafael High School’s campus.
This year there will be no tickets distributed for the promotion ceremony. Seating is first come, first serve. Students have seats at the front of the stage on the field. Families may sit behind the students in the remaining seats or in the bleachers. Once the field section is full, families will be directed to the bleachers. There is no standing on the field during the ceremony.
One condition that San Rafael High School has been very clear about is that no one will be allowed on the field or track wearing pointed heels. This can ruin both surfaces. Both students and adults should wear flats, tennis shoes, block heels, or sandals. There are no exceptions to this request from the high school who has been kind enough to loan us their space while Davidson is under construction.
The Davidson staff is asking that families not bring any food or drinks to the event. We also ask that you do not bring balloon bouquets that may block others from seeing the promotion.
After promotion, guests usually take pictures of their newly minted high schoolers before students return their gowns and families head off to celebrate. Please make sure you return your student’s gown before you leave.
There is school on Thursday, June 11th. 8th graders participate in a PTO-sponsored field day that is a lot of fun and a great way to say farewell to friends as they head off to different schools across the Bay Area and beyond.
We are very excited to recognize and celebrate our 8th graders as they are promoted to High School. Please reach out to our family center or email our administrative team if you have questions.
Best,
Michael Stachon - Principal
